Clinic Cat (Diploma in Feline Behaviour)

Marilyn is the resident cat at Wide Bay Vet Surgery. During the day she can either be found assisting the nurses in reception and greeting clients, overseeing hospital operations or managing files in the office. At night she is in charge of clinic security and is on call 24/7 for gecko management. When Marilyn is not busy running the clinic she enjoys cuddles and naps on the lounge, regular brushes and monitoring her food bowl level.

Dr Peter Gillespie

Veterinarian & Practice Owner (Bachelor of Veterinary Science BVSc)

Dr Peter graduated from the University of Qld in 1984 and has gained experience and further training in private practice in various practices here in Australia and overseas. He moved back to his Hervey Bay hometown and worked in other Hervey Bay vet practices before he developed the Wide Bay Vet Surgery in 2001.

With over 30 years of veterinary surgery experience, Peter has the solutions to your pets health needs.


Registered Veterinary Nurse & Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Rachel grew up on her family’s cattle property where she found her love of animals big and small. At home she has many pets but is particularly fond of her Shar Pei 'Norbit'. When Rachel is not at work she enjoys attending dog obedience and agility training, crabbing (especially in crocodile infested water) and travelling the top end of Australia. Rachel loves being a vet nurse at Wide Bay Vet Surgery but her favourite aspects of the job include emergencies, surgical operations and interaction with the patients.

Dr Bianca Saunders (Senior Veterinarian)

Bianca originally hails from Tasmania and has spent time in practice in both Tasmania and Melbourne.  Graduating in 2003 from the University of Melbourne she has worked for almost 15 years in both small and mixed animal practice. Bianca and her family recently relocated to Hervey Bay after coming to the area on holidays and loving it so much.  Her furry family members include a little black pug and a very mischievous bull mastiff whom you may see out and about enjoying the walking tracks around Hervey Bay. 

Dr Emma Simon (Senior Veterinarian)

Dr Emma grew up on the other side of the country knowing being a vet was the job for her! Apart from being an awesome vet, she is a serial ice coffee addict who loves lounging with her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers whilst watching game of thrones on every day that ends in 'Y'! 

Dr Jon Shen (Senior Veterinarian)

Veterinarian (BVSc MVetSci)

Dr Jon grew up in Europe and to this day still loves to explore. Dr Jon has a passion for veterinary science and is always extending his knowledge so he can help his patients get the best quality care. After completing a post graduate certificate in Internal Medicine, he spent another 4 years completing his Masters Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice from the University of Edinburgh graduating with a Distinction. Dr Jon has a side kick, Beau the pug. Together they enjoy beach walks and all kinds of adventures that generally involve food.


Registered Veterinary Nurse & Assistant Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Jaydene grew up on a property in Tamborine and has always been surrounded by animals. She has been with us since 2016 and holds a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. She looks forward to any oportunities that get thrown her way, including cake! In her spare time you will find her out catching mud crabs, horse riding or camping somewhere near the beach or bush!


Veterinary Nurse

Meg's love for animals began at a very young age whilst living at the Longreach Pastoral College with her family. Meg began her veterinary nursing career at Mount Isa in 2007. From then on she has worked in a variety of rural veterinary clinics. She moved to the fraser coast at the end of 2020 with her partner Jimmy, doggo Buddy and cat Herriot. She loves to travel the world and go on adventures in her little bright orange van (Lillytheliteace). 


Trainee Veterinary Nurse (Studying Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Our trainee nurse Bec comes all the way from Victoria! Bec's passion for nursing began as a child when she and her grandmother would care for wildlife.The key to her heart is granola and when she isnt at work she is cooking up a storm! Her nursing job is her relief and relaxation time and enjoys completing any task thrown her way! 


Trainee Veterinary Nurse (Studying Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing)

Ella has started her certificate II in veterinary Nursing and is already proving to be a huge asset to our team! Ella's favourite part of the job is meeting all the lovely patients that come in. She is nothing short of a team player that gives everything a red-hot go! In her spare time she loves to bake and play netball. You can find Ella in both reception and out the back caring for your furry family members! :) 

Meg B

Trainee Veterinary Nurse (Studying Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing)

Meg B is our youngest and bravest. She is always keen to have a go even when it gets dangerous. Meg is studying her certificate II in Veterinary Nursing via a School based traineeship. In her spare time she loves to ride motorbikes and horses. Meg’s biggest love is her dachshund, Bonnie!



Meet Courtney, Our Boutique Pet Spa Manager. She brings a unique & creative personality to our team and always has a can do attitude! You can find her always creating and thinking of great new ideas to make your furry friend look and feel their best! In her spare time you'll find her either coaching Muay Thai or walking her 3 mischievous dachshunds.

Meet Rochelle our Pet Stylist and Trainee Veterinary Nurse. She is an integral part of our team and shares a very close bond with our clinic cat Marilyn. You can find Rochelle in the Boutique Pet Spa or here in the clinic always lending a hand to help your furry family members. She is one of a kind and are happy to have her in our team! :)
